Catalonia is experiencing a crucial transformation of its productive model. The main changes are exemplified by an intense process of substitution of the traditional aspects (low-technology manufacturing base and orientation towards internal markets) for a model of development characterized by the combined importance of creative industries and high-tech manufacturing activities, and oriented to external markets. In a previous report optimisation of ED-XRF and TXRF for whole blood analysis has been reported. In the present work the optimised technique has been applied to investigate possible influence on pregnancy outcome due to an environment characterised by high levels of pollutants. Two groups of maternal and neonate whole blood were analysed with TXRF and GFAAS. The material of the first group was taken from Zabrze (Upper Silesia, Poland), an industrial region with a high degree of pollution. Epidemiological analysis of hospitalisations due to recurrent stroke in the Silesian Province, Poland, between 2009 and 2015

Background and aim. There is a lack of recent epidemiological studies on recurrent stroke (RS) in Poland. The aim of this study was to analyse all hospitalisations related to RS in Silesia – an industrial region covering 12% of the Polish population. Material and methods. We carried out statistical analysis of data contained in stroke questionnaires transferred to the Polish National Health Fund by hospitals in Silesia, Poland, between 2009 and 2015. Results. In the analysed period, the number of RS hospitalisations in Silesia was 18,063 (22.2% of all acute strokes).
